Teachable Review 2026: The Best Course Platform or Overpriced Tool?

teachable review logo

Verdict

Teachable is one of the most beginner-friendly online course platforms in the market. It is fast to set up, honest about most of its pricing, and strong on course-delivery tools that actually matter: completion certificates, gradebook tracking, video analytics, and course compliance across every paid plan. The Starter plan at $39 per month is a trap, though, so the Builder plan at $89 per month is where Teachable earns its reputation

Best for: Course creators who want a clean, focused platform to build and sell structured online courses without paying for marketing tools they won’t use.

Not for: Creators who need a full marketing platform with funnel builders, behavioral email automation, or an all-in-one business suite.

Rating: 3.9 / 5

This review covers the Teachable platform review 2026 in full: pricing, course builder, AI tools, marketing features, payment processing, mobile app, community, integrations, analytics, customer service, and the alternatives worth considering before you commit.

How Teachable Scores Across the Board

This Teachable review 2026 uses the same framework across every platform GroupApp evaluates.

These scores reflect what actually determines whether a platform supports a real creator business, not just a trial account.

What Is Teachable?

teachable.com landing page

Teachable is an online course platform that lets creators, coaches, educators, and entrepreneurs build, sell, and deliver digital learning products.

The platform offers online courses, digital downloads, Zoom coaching sessions, membership programs, and course bundles, all under one creator dashboard at teachable.com.

As of 2026, Teachable serves over 150,000 active creators across 180 countries, and over 100 million students have taken courses on the platform.

Combined with Hotmart, its parent company, creators have earned over $10 billion in revenue through the platform.

Teachable was founded by Ankur Nagpal and launched in 2014 as a simple, creator-friendly alternative to more complex learning management systems.

The company built its reputation on one core promise: you don’t need a developer or a designer to create and sell a professional online course.

What Happened After the Hotmart Acquisition?

In 2020, Hotmart, a Brazilian online education company, acquired Teachable for approximately $250 million.

Ankur Nagpal, the original founder, initially stayed on as CEO.

The first two years after the acquisition were relatively smooth for creators on the platform, but 2023 was the turning point.

Teachable rolled out a new pricing model that significantly increased costs for creators on unlimited course plans.

Some users even saw their monthly fees jump from $40 to $600 per month after the unlimited courses feature was removed.

The pricing overhaul triggered a significant shift in creators toward Thinkific, Kajabi, and Podia.

Customer support quality declined noticeably during this period.

Users reported longer wait times, unresolved tickets, and a mass layoff within the company that affected support operations.

Today, Teachable has stabilized.

The platform has continued to add AI features, improve its payment infrastructure, and refine the course builder, but creators testing Teachable in 2026 should understand the history.

The platform that exists now isn’t the same platform that earned its original reputation between 2014 and 2019.

Teachable Pricing 2026

Teachable pricing plans

Teachable lists its plan price, but they don’t show you what your real monthly cost is once you add the transaction fee on Starter, the processing fees on every plan, and the limits that force upgrades earlier than you expect.

This section gives you the full pricing picture, plan by plan, with the math that the teachable.com pricing page doesn’t show you in one place.

Teachable Pricing Plans 2026: Overview

PlanMonthly priceAnnual priceTransaction fee
Starter$39/month$29/month7.5% on every sale
Builder$89/month$69/month0%
Growth$189/month$139/month0%
SellersCustomCustom0%

The Starter plan at $39 per month is what Teachable leads with on the pricing page.

What it doesn’t lead with is the 7.5% transaction fee sitting underneath it. That fee is a Teachable platform charge on top of whatever Stripe takes from every sale you make.

Meanwhile, Teachable Builder at $89 per month carries 0% platform fees and only standard Stripe processing costs.

The breakeven point is $681 in monthly revenue.

For sales above $681 per month, the Builder plan costs less in total fees than the Starter.

Most active course creators hit $681 in their first or second month of selling, so the Starter plan isn’t a viable long-term option for any creator generating real revenue.

Processing Fees

Every Teachable plan carries standard payment processing fees through teachable:pay.

US credit and debit cards process at 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction, while international cards cost 3.9% plus $0.30.

US PayPal transactions run 3.49% plus $0.49, and international PayPal costs 4.99% plus $0.49.

Payment MethodProcessing Fee
US credit/debit card2.9% + $0.30
International credit/debit card3.9% + $0.30
US PayPal3.49% + $0.49
International PayPal4.99% + $0.49
Chargeback fee$15 flat
BackOffice fee (optional)2% to 2.8%

The optional BackOffice fee of 2% to 2.8% applies to creators who want Teachable to handle payout scheduling, tax form generation, and affiliate payment management.

This isn’t a requirement, and most creators don’t need it.

But it’s easy to activate without realizing it adds to your monthly cost.

The platform rewards revenue growth without forcing a plan change, a creator-friendly policy that competing platforms just don’t offer.

Teachable Review: Course Builder

The Teachable course builder is the reason 150,000 creators chose this platform.

It’s one of the fastest, most intuitive, and most beginner-friendly course builders in the category.

If you’ve ever built an online course before, Teachable removes every technical barrier between your expertise and your first published product.

The Course Creation Process

When you log into a new Teachable school for the first time, the platform takes you directly to the AI course outline builder.

You describe the course you want to create, and the AI generates a full curriculum structure with sections and lessons that you then populate with content.

That’s the Teachable course creation speed in practice: from account creation to curriculum structure in under 10 minutes.

The curriculum builder organizes courses into sections and lessons.

Inside each lesson, you can include videos, text documents, audio files, PDFs, images, quizzes, open-ended questions, and downloadable resources.

content types on teachable

You can also embed a Zoom session inside a lesson to turn it into a live tutorial.

The content blocks stack vertically, and you reorder them via drag-and-drop.

One feature that makes the Teachable course creation experience different from competitors is lesson-level upsells and custom code blocks.

You can add an upsell offer to a specific lesson, presenting a related product to students at the exact moment they’re most engaged with relevant content. That’s something you won’t find on Kajabi, Thinkific, or Podia.

Lesson notes are another Teachable-exclusive feature.

Students can take timestamped notes directly inside the course player, similar to the Udemy experience. The notes are attached to the specific moment in the video where the student made them.

For professional training programs where note-taking is part of the learning process, this feature creates a study experience that generic course platforms skip.

Teachable AI Tools

Teachable’s AI tools are among the best in the course platform category and are available on all paid plans.

The AI course creation tool generates a full curriculum outline from a simple text prompt.

All you have to do is describe the course topic, the target audience, and the learning outcome, and the AI produces a suggested module and lesson structure that you edit and build from.

Ai course generator prompt teachable

The AI quiz generator is another time saver.

It takes your video content or PDF material and generates quiz questions based on the actual content.

You don’t have to write questions from scratch, as the AI reads the lesson and builds the assessment.

That specific capability, AI reading your content and generating assessments from it, isn’t available on most competing platforms.

AI-powered automatic subtitles and translations are available in up to 70 languages and are included with the Growth plan.

For course creators building multilingual programs or targeting international student audiences, the 70-language subtitle capability removes the need for a third-party transcription service.

A creator building a French language course with English, Spanish, and Portuguese subtitles, for example, handles it all within Teachable, without leaving the platform.

Course Design

Teachable course design is clean and professional, but the template selection is one of the platform’s most notable limitations.

There are only two design templates for how courses look to students.

two design templates

For a platform serving 150,000 creators, two options are not a real choice. Worse, both templates follow the same basic structure and differ mainly in minor layout details.

Now, you can customize fonts and colors, but not in the course template section itself. To do that, navigate to Sites, then Themes.

That navigation path is counterintuitive for new creators who expect design controls to live inside the course builder.

The Teachable course design quality for the student-facing experience is strong despite the limited templates.

The course player is clean, loads fast, and works well on mobile.

It supports autoplay, autocomplete, playback speed controls, a mini-player, quality settings, and subtitle display.

Students can track their completion percentage through a progress bar that updates as they complete lessons and assessments.

Course Delivery and Compliance

By default, every Teachable course is available on demand after purchase.

Students access everything at once and work through it at their own pace, which is technically the standard course delivery model for self-paced online learning.

For structured programs, Teachable gives course creators four compliance tools that go beyond what most course platforms offer.

First, sequential lesson locks prevent students from skipping ahead until they complete the current lesson.

Second, minimum video watch requirements, set at 90% by default, force students to actually watch content before marking a lesson as complete.

Third, quiz pass grade requirements mean students must achieve a set score before the next lesson unlocks.

Fourth, quiz retake limits control how many attempts a student gets before they are locked out of further attempts.

Together, these four compliance settings create a structured progression that works for professional certification programs, compliance training, and any course where documented learning outcomes matter.

Drip content scheduling on Teachable also operates in two modes.

Calendar-based drip releases sections on specific calendar dates, so all students in a cohort access content at the same time, regardless of when they individually enrolled. Days-after-enrollment drip, on the other hand, releases content a fixed number of days after each student signs up.

Both modes are available on all Teachable paid plans, not locked behind the Growth tier.

Completion Certificates

Completion certificates are available on all Teachable paid plans, including the Starter plan at $39 per month.

When students finish all required course content, Teachable automatically issues the certificate for them to download as a PDF, share on LinkedIn, or display on a portfolio page.

The certificate customization is honest about its limitations, too.

There are three basic templates with limited design control.

You can customize the certificate name, add your logo, and change the color scheme. And if you need a fully custom branded certificate design, you can code it in HTML or use an open-source templating language called Liquid.

However, each course can only have one active certificate at a time.

Teachable Review: Gradebook and Analytics

The Teachable gradebook features are one of the platform’s most underappreciated advantages over competing course tools.

Most platforms show aggregate course completion rates, but Teachable shows individual student performance at the quiz, video, and lesson level, which is a fundamentally different tool for running a professional learning program.

Student-Level Analytics

The Teachable student experience analytics let you see each student’s completion percentage, quiz scores, time spent in lessons, and the specific lessons they have not yet opened.

For a group coaching program with 50 students, that per-student view tells you who is engaged, who is stuck, and who has not logged in this week.

The student breakdown report goes further than completion tracking and shows quiz performance per question, revealing which questions are consistently answered incorrectly across your student base.

That data identifies the specific concepts in your curriculum that need clearer explanation.

Most course platforms don’t surface this level of learning analytics at any price point.

Video Analytics

Teachable video analytics include a retention graph showing how long students watched each video and where they stopped watching.

The heatmap visualization shows which sections of a video receive the most repeated views, indicating the content students find most valuable or most confusing.

The total view count and average watch time per video complete the picture.

That video retention data tells you something that aggregate completion rates never will: which specific part of a lesson do students check out?

This isn’t a marginal concern. In its 2026 State of Video Report, built on over 13 million videos and 79 million hours of viewing data, Wistia found that for educational and tutorial videos under five minutes, people watch only about halfway through before tuning out, which is exactly why knowing where in a specific lesson students drop off matters more than an aggregate completion number.

For example, if your Module 3 video shows a consistent drop-off at the 8-minute mark, something there is causing students to drop off.

The Teachable video analytics give you the data to identify and fix that problem before it affects your completion rate.

Teachable Review: Page Builder and Sales Pages

The Teachable page builder is an area where the platform makes a deliberate trade-off: maximum simplicity over maximum design control.

For creators who want a fast, professional-looking course sales page without design experience, it delivers exactly that.

But if you want a fully custom-branded website, it will feel limiting.

Auto-Generated Sales Pages

When you create a product on Teachable, the platform automatically generates three pages: a sales page, a checkout page, and a post-purchase thank-you page.

That automatic page generation is faster than any manual page builder process on Kajabi, Thinkific, or Podia.

You create the product, and the conversion infrastructure appears immediately.

The auto-generated Teachable sales page includes eight content blocks by default: a hero section with a headline and CTA, an instructor bio, a course curriculum preview, a testimonials placeholder, a pricing block, an FAQ section, a guarantee section, and a final CTA.

auto-generated sales page teachable

The sales page framework covers every element that a conversion-focused course sales page needs.

The Page Builder Limitations

The Teachable page builder supports five content types: text, image, button, video, and lead-capture form. That’s it.

There are no countdown timers, video background sections, columns, icon blocks, or social proof widgets beyond the standard testimonial block.

For comparison, Kajabi’s Enhanced Checkout alone has 15-plus block types.

The content blocks are added to the bottom of the page by default, so you drag them up to the position you want after adding them.

However, you can’t drop a block precisely between two existing blocks in one step, and the editing panel sits on the left side of the screen rather than inline.

Those two interaction decisions create friction that experienced page builders find inefficient.

Custom domain is also a Builder-and-above feature.

On the Starter plan, your school lives on a teachable.com subdomain. The custom domain connection process is standard and well-documented.

Every school also gets Teachable’s automated Privacy Policy and Terms of Use pages by default, which covers creators legally without requiring a separate legal document service.

The Teachable school automatically supports single-page translation into 11 languages, so students who browse your school in a different language can trigger a translation of the student-facing pages.

This single-click translation capability, combined with the 70-language video subtitles, makes Teachable one of the strongest platforms for creators targeting international student audiences.

Teachable Review: Marketing Tools

Teachable does pretty well with email and affiliate marketing. In fact, its affiliate features are some of the most creator-friendly I’ve seen.

Let’s start with emails, though.

Email Marketing

The platform includes built-in email marketing on the Builder and Growth plans to handle the transactional part of selling online courses.

The email tool handles abandoned cart reminders, enrollment confirmations, upsell follow-ups after purchase, and student milestone notifications

email composer

However, it falls short in promotional email campaigns compared to a dedicated email platform.

Furthermore, the segmentation options are more basic than tools like ConvertKit, Kit, or ActiveCampaign, and there aren’t any behavioral trigger sequences that fire based on what students do inside your course.

For email marketing that actually drives course sales and builds an email list, Teachable integrates with MailerLite, ActiveCampaign, AWeber, Kit (formerly ConvertKit), and Mailchimp.

On the Growth plan, Zapier unlocks connections to dozens more email platforms.

Affiliate Marketing

The Teachable affiliate program review is a positive story.

The integrated affiliate program is unlocked on the Builder plan at $89 per month.

You set commission rates, generate affiliate links, and Teachable automatically tracks referrals, conversions, and commission earnings in the affiliate dashboard.

Affiliate marketing tools on Teachable include a custom affiliate dashboard for each affiliate partner showing their clicks, conversions, and total earnings.

You can even set different commission rates for different products and affiliates. The affiliate tracking system connects to the teachable:pay payment infrastructure, which calculates and logs commissions on every qualified sale.

Student referrals work on all Teachable plans, including the Starter plan. You can reward existing students for bringing in new students with discounts, free access, or custom perks you define. That student referral program creates a word-of-mouth growth loop that costs nothing to run beyond the reward you set.

Landing Pages, Sales Pages, and the Missing Funnel Builder

Teachable generates a sales page for every product you create, but it doesn’t generate a marketing funnel.

There’s no opt-in page builder, email nurture sequence connected to a lead magnet, webinar registration page, or multi-step funnel that takes a cold prospect through a conversion journey before they reach the sales page.

For creators running paid advertising campaigns, the lack of a dedicated landing page builder integrated with an email sequence is a significant gap.

You can capture email addresses through a basic one-field form on any Teachable page, but the form has only one field, so you can’t add fields for name, industry, or qualifying questions that would segment your email list.

The practical path for Teachable creators who want proper marketing funnels is to use an external landing page tool connected via Zapier on the Growth plan.

Leadpages, ClickFunnels, or ConvertKit’s landing page builder can all integrate with Teachable via Zapier, but that external setup adds $20 to $50 per month to the platform cost.

Coupons, Order Bumps, and Checkout Conversion Tools

Teachable checkout conversion tools are strong and available across all plans.

order bumps

Coupon codes with percentage or fixed-amount discounts work on all paid plans, and order bumps let you attach a complementary offer to the checkout page.

That means a student buying your flagship course at $297 sees a $47 bump for your template library, with the option to add it to their order with a single click.

Upsells present a follow-up offer immediately after the initial purchase.

A student who just bought your beginner course sees an offer for your advanced program before they return to their course library, and the upsell appears in the purchase flow without requiring them to re-enter payment information.

When a prospective buyer starts the checkout process and leaves without completing the purchase, abandoned cart emails are automatically sent.

The recovery rate for automated cart abandonment emails typically runs 5-15%, so a Teachable creator doing $5,000 per month in checkout sessions with standard abandonment rates recovers $250 to $750 per month in otherwise-lost revenue.

That recovery makes sense because abandonment is usually the norm rather than the exception. The Baymard Institute, aggregating data from 50 studies, puts the average cart abandonment rate at 70.22%, meaning roughly 7 of every 10 shoppers who start checkout never finish. Data from the Baymard Institute.

Teachable Review: Payment Processing

Teachable’s payment processing through teachable:pay is a full payment infrastructure that handles sales tax, international VAT, affiliate payouts, and Apple Pay and Google Pay without needing a third-party payment service.

Automatic Tax Remittance

When you use teachable:pay, Teachable automatically calculates, collects, and remits sales tax and VAT to the appropriate tax authorities in close to 200 countries on your behalf.

That means you don’t have to file tax returns for international sales or hire an accountant to handle EU VAT because the platform takes care of it through its payment infrastructure.

The automatic tax remittance feature eliminates the compliance overhead that makes international selling on platforms without built-in tax handling complicated. That’s a big advantage for course creators selling to students in Germany, France, the UK, Australia, Canada, and dozens of other countries with VAT or GST requirements.

In my opinion, that capability alone can justify the Teachable transaction fee for creators with significant international student bases.

Payment Methods: Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Global Card Support

Teachable supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, major credit and debit cards, and PayPal through teachable:pay.

Apple Pay and Google Pay significantly reduce checkout friction for mobile shoppers.

For instance, a student on their phone can complete a course purchase with Face ID or a thumbprint rather than typing a 16-digit card number on a small keyboard.

Daily payouts through teachable:pay give creators the fastest access to revenue in the course platform category.

While most competing platforms pay out weekly or monthly, daily payouts mean a course sale on Monday appears in your bank account by Tuesday.

If you need consistent cash flow to reinvest in marketing and content creation, daily payout availability is a great operational advantage.

The BackOffice Fee

The optional BackOffice fee of 2% to 2.8% applies to creators who want Teachable to handle affiliate payment management, contract tracking, and tax form generation for their affiliate network.

It’s strictly optional, so creators who manage a small affiliate program manually don’t need it.

If you manage a large affiliate program with dozens of partners who need automated commission calculations, automatic 1099 generation for US-based affiliates, and scheduled payout management, you’ll find the BackOffice service saves a lot of administrative time.

The 2% to 2.8% cost needs to be weighed against the cost of managing affiliate payments manually at scale.

Teachable Review: Mobile App

The Teachable mobile app is available for students on iOS and Android at no extra cost on all paid plans.

Students use the app to access courses, watch videos, take quizzes, view course materials, and check their completion progress.

What the Mobile App Does Well

The mobile app experience delivers the core learning experience cleanly.

Video streaming works reliably across connection speeds, and students pick up exactly where they left off with automatic progress sync between mobile and desktop.

Plus, push notifications alert students to new lesson releases, upcoming live sessions, and course announcements from the creator.

Moreover, finding enrolled courses, accessing lesson materials, and completing quizzes requires fewer taps than most competing platform apps.

The Mobile App Limitations You Need to Know

The Teachable mobile app has three documented limitations that matter for creators building specific program types.

First, coaching sessions aren’t accessible in the app, so students enrolled in Teachable coaching programs must use a desktop browser to attend or manage them.

That’s a friction point for coaching businesses with mobile-first client bases.

Second, lesson comments aren’t available in the mobile app.

If your students want to ask questions or engage with the community discussion attached to a specific lesson, they must do so on a desktop.

For programs where lesson-level discussion is part of the learning experience, that limitation reduces mobile engagement with the community features.

Third, course compliance features don’t function in the mobile app.

The sequential lesson lock, minimum video watch requirement, and quiz pass-before-advance rules don’t apply to students accessing courses through the app.

A student who’s locked out of Lesson 4 on a desktop because they haven’t passed the Lesson 3 quiz can potentially bypass that lock by accessing the course through the mobile app.

The Teachable mobile app for students is also limited by the absence of a white-label version.

Your courses live inside the Teachable-branded app, so Students who download the app see Teachable’s logo and brand in the App Store listing, not yours.

For premium programs where the brand experience matters to your positioning, the Teachable brand presence in the app creates a credibility gap.

Teachable Review: Community

Teachable includes a built-in community feature on all paid plans.

It’s a functional student discussion board, but it isn’t a purpose-built community platform.

What the Teachable Community Can Do

The Teachable community lets you create a discussion space for enrolled students.

teachable community

You can organize discussions using categories and tags, so students can post questions, share progress updates, and engage with course content topics.

You can also restrict community access to enrolled students in a specific course or open it to all students across your school.

Lesson comments on Teachable provide a more focused community layer.

Students leave questions and feedback directly on the lesson page they are watching, so the instructor and other students can reply to those comments in context.

If peer discussion and instructor Q&As are part of your learning experience, lesson comments create relevant in-context conversation.

Where the Teachable Community Falls Short

Compared to dedicated community platforms like GroupApp, Circle, or Skool, Teachable falls short.

First off, there’s no gamification system with features like points, badges, streaks, or leaderboards to drive engagement.

The platform also lacks native livestreaming and direct messaging between students.

Access groups that control which community spaces different membership tiers can see are also nonexistent in the Teachable community.

That means every student enrolled in a course sees the same community space. So if you want tiered community access based on membership level, product purchase, or cohort enrollment, Teachable can’t provide it natively.

For creators whose community is the primary product rather than a supplement to the course, the Teachable community is a significant limitation.

A creator selling a $197/month community membership where daily engagement, live events, and member connection drive retention can’t build that program on Teachable’s basic discussion board.

Teachable Review: Integrations

Teachable has 23 available integrations, but the challenge is the hard cap on how many you can use per plan.

 i

For instance, the Starter plan allows 1 integration, the Builder allows 3, and the Growth allows 5, while you get unlimited integrations on the Sellers custom plan.

For a creator building a connected marketing and operations stack, the integration count limit on lower plans is a genuine constraint.

What the Key Integrations Cover

The 23 Teachable integrations span four main categories:

  • Email marketing platforms: MailerLite, ActiveCampaign, AWeber, Kit, and Mailchimp.
  • Analytics and tracking: Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, and Segment.
  • Live session delivery: Zoom for coaching and live tutorials.
  • Website and publishing tools: WordPress for creators who want more website control than Teachable’s builder provides.

Zapier on the Growth plan extends the integration ecosystem significantly beyond the 23 direct connections.

Through Zapier, Teachable connects to CRM platforms, advanced email automation tools, spreadsheet-based workflows, project management systems, and custom internal tools.

For creators who need connections beyond Teachable’s native 23, Zapier on Growth is the solution, but requires the $189 per month plan.

Teachable SSO and Developer Tools

Teachable SSO (Single Sign-On) allows students to log into your Teachable school using credentials from your existing website or membership platform.

That takes care of a big obstacle during enrollment.

The Teachable API on the Growth plan provides 10,000 requests per month, with a limit of 100 requests per minute.

Webhooks and OAuth also unlock on Growth.

For Teachable developers and technical creators who want to build custom integrations, pull student data into external systems, or automate enrollment processes programmatically, the Growth plan API covers most standard use cases.

Teachable Review: Customer Service

The support experience in Builder and Growth differs from the Starter experience, and that difference affects your business operations when something goes wrong.

Support by Plan

Email support is available on all paid plans, including Starter.

Teachable University, a comprehensive video and written training resource covering every platform feature, is also available on all plans.

Furthermore, the Launch Accelerator program, a guided setup course for new creators, is included in the first paid plan.

Real-time live chat support unlocks on the Builder plan at $89 per month.

That live chat availability is an operational upgrade for creators who need fast resolution during course launches, enrollment periods, or any time a technical issue affects student access.

On Starter, email-only support means issues are resolved in hours rather than minutes.

Priority support is a Sellers plan feature, as is dedicated account manager access.

For the majority of Teachable users on Starter, Builder, or Growth, the primary support paths are the knowledge base and the AI-powered chatbot trained on it, with a support ticket if the bot can’t resolve the issue.

The Knowledge Base and AI Support Bot

Teachable’s knowledge base is one of the most comprehensive in the course platform category.

Articles cover every feature in the platform with step-by-step instructions, screenshots, and video walkthroughs.

The vast majority of setup and configuration questions have documented, accurate, and up-to-date answers.

The AI chatbot trained on the knowledge base handles the first layer of support for all creators before routing to a human agent.

The bot quickly resolves common questions about billing, feature configuration, and technical setup.

Complex issues, billing disputes, and platform bugs require escalation to a human support ticket.

GroupApp: The Best Teachable Alternative for Group Programs

GroupApp community space on desktop and branded app

Teachable is excellent for what it was built to do: deliver structured self-paced online courses to individual students.

Where it creates tension is when your program model isn’t a solo course.

When you run a group coaching program, a cohort course with shared learning, or a corporate training program that sells to teams rather than individuals, Teachable’s architecture works against you.

GroupApp is the group learning platform built specifically for group coaching programs, cohort courses, and structured training businesses.

The core difference starts with how discussion works.

Every lesson on GroupApp has its own dedicated discussion channel, so students can ask questions about Module 3 within Module 3, not in a general forum that mixes all course conversations together.

Enforce Completion on GroupApp locks each module until a student finishes the one before it. That’s the same sequential progression that Teachable’s course compliance delivers.

The difference is what sits alongside it: graded assignments with instructor review, automatic certificate issuance, and individual student progress tracking at the per-student level rather than aggregate course completion rates.

The feature that Teachable can’t match for corporate training businesses is group subscriptions.

One manager purchases access for an entire team that gets in immediately.

The manager controls the seats, adds and removes members, and manages all internal access.

You collect a single payment and never touch billing again.

That single transaction model changes what’s possible in a B2B sale. For example, a team of 20 employees at $97 per seat is 20 individual Teachable purchases across 20 separate checkout flows.

A group subscription for the same team is billed as a single corporate invoice to a single decision-maker.

The deal closes in one call instead of stalling across procurement for three weeks.

GroupApp Launch at $24 per month charges 0% transaction fees, while Teachable Starter at $39 per month charges 7.5% on every sale.

At $2,000 per month in course revenue on Teachable Starter, the fees cost you $189 per month, while at $2,000 per month on GroupApp Launch, the platform fee is $24.

That’s $165 per month in savings, or $1,980 per year, from the entry plan alone.

Other Teachable Alternatives Worth Considering

This Teachable review comparison covers the most common platform alternatives creators evaluate alongside Teachable.

The patterns below reflect where each platform beats Teachable and where Teachable holds its ground.

1. Kajabi vs Teachable

kajabi homepage

Kajabi is the all-in-one marketing platform that Teachable creators most often graduate to when they need email automation, sales funnels, coaching products, and a community under one dashboard.

The Teachable vs Kajabi review comparison comes down to one question: do you need a course platform or a marketing platform?

Teachable Builder at $89 per month wins on price for pure course delivery, while Kajabi Growth at $199 per month annually wins when you need behavioral email sequences, Blueprint funnel templates, a branded mobile app, and a coaching product with native scheduling.

If you currently pay for ConvertKit, Leadpages, and Calendly separately on top of Teachable, run the consolidation math before assuming Kajabi is more expensive.

Verdict: start with Teachable if your primary product is a course and your marketing stack is already in place. Move to Kajabi when the email automation, funnels, and coaching tools replace enough external subscriptions to justify the platform’s premium.

2. Thinkific vs Teachable

Thinkific is the closest direct competitor to Teachable in the course-focused platform category, as both prioritize course delivery over marketing tools.

The Teachable vs Thinkific review comparison comes down to where each platform invests its depth.

Thinkific Basic at $49 per month offers unlimited courses and no transaction fees, which immediately beats Teachable Starter’s 5-product limit and 7.5% fee.

Where Teachable wins over Thinkific: the video analytics with retention graphs, the AI quiz generator from video and PDF content, and the automatic tax remittance through teachable:pay.

Verdict: If you expect to build more than 10 courses quickly and want unlimited course creation from the entry plan, Thinkific is the stronger financial choice. If you need video analytics, in-lesson upsells, and automatic international tax handling, Teachable’s feature set justifies the plan comparison.

3. Podia vs Teachable

Podia positions itself as the simplest course and digital product platform for solo creators who want the fastest path from idea to first sale.

The 2026 Teachable vs Podia review compares simplicity-first and feature-rich approaches.

Podia Mover at $49 per month carries a 5% transaction fee, while Podia Shaker at $99 per month drops to 0% fees and adds affiliate marketing and upsells.

On the other hand, Teachable Builder at $89 per month gives you more course depth with better compliance tools, stronger video analytics, and the AI quiz generator from content.

So Podia wins on product type variety and initial setup speed.

Verdict: Teachable over Podia for any creator building structured learning programs where student completion rates and individual progress tracking matter. Podia over Teachable for creators who primarily sell digital downloads, simple courses, and coaching packages, and value the fastest setup experience.
